Yenagoa mayor, Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari, today welcomed the Officer-in-Charge of the Bayelsa State Correctional Centre, Okaka Yenagoa
The Executive Chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Council Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari, today welcomed the Officer-in-Charge of the Bayelsa State Correctional Centre, Okaka Yenagoa, Assistant Controller of Corrections (ACC) Rashid Ogundare, during a courtesy visit to his office.
During the visit, ACC Rashid Ogundare, who heads the Okaka Correctional Centre, highlighted several pressing challenges faced by the facility. He emphasized that 80% of the inmates are Bayelsans in need of care, rehabilitation, and support to reintegrate to the society. He appealed for assistance in key areas, including the provision of mattresses for inmates, replacement of worn-out tyres for the official vehicle, and procurement of training materials for skill acquisition programs to equip inmates with vocational skills.
In response, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari, commended the efforts of the correctional officers in ensuring the welfare of the inmates and acknowledged the importance of rehabilitation programs. He encouraged them to continue their good work and assured them of the Council's support. Hon. Ndiwari pledged to provide mattresses and vehicle tyres in no distant time to help alleviate some of the challenges faced by the correctional facility.
